With Thanksgiving right around the corner in the States, many of us are busy planning which dishes we'll be making for our holiday celebration.
(Gotta have those sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping!)
And when you think about it, Thanksgiving is essentially a giant potluck.
Grandma makes her famous pies, Aunt Cathy brings those amazing mashed potatoes, Cousin Bob brings some appetizers that make everyone's eyes water, and Uncle John brings a bottle of wine...or two.
It's crazy and chaotic...and wonderful.
And a big part of what makes Thanksgiving so joyful is the fact that everyone contributes (except for that one cousin who eats more than everyone else:).
Would it be easier to just order a stack of pizzas for everyone and call it a day?
Sure it would!
But it wouldn't be nearly as meaningful.
Well, guess what?
God loves the joyful, wonderful craziness of a family potluck too - so much so that He's built it into His plan for our salvation.
Before I became a Catholic, one of my objections to Mary's role in the Church was that she wasn't necessary for salvation. Wasn't Christ enough?
Of course God doesn't NEED help from Mary, or from any of us - but he WANTS it. He WILLS it.
He wants our whole big (sometimes messy) family to chip in and work together towards grace and salvation.
So in today's Sainthood Snippet, (taken from the Science of Sainthood course Our Lady in the Life of Grace), I present a simple but powerful argument to explain why God gave Mary her role in salvation - and how we all have a role to play, as well.
