I was not going to buy any more watches...I had been impatiently awaiting the release of the UNIMATIC X Hodinkee collaboration and bought a Luminox as my new beater. The next day, the folks at Unimatic X Hodinkee retailed — not one, but three — watches. They had new Sellita movements, with slightly thinner cases and I even had their GMT in my cart and was at the checkout...
But then I awoke to a truth I had been keeping buried deeply, Unimatic is no longer exciting me for the prices I'm expected to pay and the swiftness in which I must make a purchase decision. Regardless of what they do, it is essentially the same watch in three different case types and I have one of each of those already. Two of my Unimatic feature the same Seiko movement that is wildly inaccurate to itself. A Sellita is better than a Seiko and so they have tickled that segment of the customer pool unhappy with the Japanese movement inside of an Italian watch. But I must wait for them to innovate...
Here, a day or so later, I came across this vision: Yema Superman Worldtime. Here was the GMT I wanted. This timepiece immediately erased any FOMO I might have held for passing on the UXH GMT. I didn't include the lume shot, but the superluminova is blue and crisp. The pip and hands are clearly distinguishable in darkness. This watch features an in-house 3000 movement pretty enough for an exhibition case back — which sadly, is absent from this model. The bracelet tapers to a width that is too narrow for the 41mm case. It is practically comical. I contained and measured my words in the video, but it is the least coherent aspect of the design. For this reason, the Tropic dive strap enclosed in the purchase serves as an apology in advance. I suspect they know this bracelet underserves this case size.
