KINGDOM OF TONGA - EUA ISLAND & TONGATAPU ISLAND - BEST SIGHTSEEING HIKING HOLIDAY IN SOUTH PACIFIC

Let’s start with the Rock Garden – it’s like a natural Stonehenge. Reached by 4WD drive through the unsealed roads you will be dropped off to point where you will be asked to walk towards a sign in the distance, the car will drive around and meet you there – that way you can really take it in as you stare off the amazing

Lakufa’anga cliffs. Once you reach the sign you will read an interesting story. Next it’s off to see another impressive sight created by Mother Nature or perhaps Maui himself.

The Li’anga Huo ‘a Maui (Maui's archway). A massive natural archway. This is reached by a 400 meter hike through the dense forest where you can view the wonder from a platform.

Next we drive to the BIG Ovava tree (Strangling fig). I mean this thing is huge. It’s at least 800 years old and you can walk through it and even get lost in it. It feels magical and the air is like no other air you will ever breathe!

After this you will be taken to Eua National Forest Reserve to take in the view from the Lokupo Platform lookout.

From here you will hike through a trail about 20min until you reach the Ana Kuma (rats cave). Don’t worry it does NOT have any rats in it. Its name that due to the small entrance hole which means you need to get low and crawl like a rat into the cave. The Cave has a light at the end of a tunnel which again shows you the most incredible view!

FANGATAVE BEACH HIKE - From the top you will look down at the beautiful beach which is your aim to get to today! You will be carefully led through an adventurous hike through the forest, you will need to scale down some rocks with ropes and climb through Caves and more forest before you reach the magical beach.

Here you can enjoy a swim, walk around the beach and explore move caves or just relax and take it all in.

You do NOT need to be a professional climber, but it is quite a hike down and not for the faint of heart.

TONGATAPU ISLAND
Ancient Terraced Tombs
The tombs are stone vaults, "platforms of earth with a stepped pyramid effect supported by carefully placed retaining walls". The earliest tombs have been tentatively dated back to the mid-thirteenth century.

Fishing Pigs*
When the tide is out, these unusual porkers trot out into the shallows and snuffle around in search of seafood. Not something you see every day! Of course we can't guarantee you will see the Pigs fishing, it all depends on the tide & the pigs!

Ha'amonga a' Maui
Local ancient legend has it that in a certain time of the year, you can pass through this mysterious place, and on other side of the structure, you encounter the habitat of an ancient god. This remarkable prehistoric megalithic monument consisting of two gigantic 5-meter tall limestone upright stones are approximately 30-40 tons each, that support a massive, horizontal 6-meter-long slab. The total weight of the monument is 40 ton. How it was built remains a mystery.

3 headed Coconut tree
Not just another Coconut tree, this one has 3 heads and is apparently the only one in the world! Stop here for a quick photo!

Mapu 'A Vaea Blowholes
See the most spectacular blowholes! Here you'll find not one blowhole, but hundreds of them along this three mile stretch of wild windswept coastline. Watch from the safety of the viewing platform. This is also a great spot to enjoy your tasty packed lunch as you enjoy Mother Nature showing off her mighty power.

Tsunami rock
Science says, this huge Coral boulder was thrown inland thousands of years ago by a prehistoric Tsunami. Local legend say's the Demi God Maui threw the giant rock down to kill an annoying Rooster. Tongan Roosters crow all day and night so the Maui theary does have merit!

Talamahu market.
We cover the bottom floor of the markets (not the souvenir level) and you can see the local medicines they sell, the Tapa cloth they make and learn about the local produce.

Oholei buffet dinner show.
The buffet is a Tongan feast with some western favourites too. Whether you are looking for fresh seafood, umu, green salad, suckling pig roasted on a spit, tropical fruits or lu kapapulu (corned beef, onions and coconut cream wrapped in greens and steamed) you will find it at the Oholei feast.

Fire Dance & Cutlural Show
After dinner the experience continues with a floor show in Hina Cave. Enjoy a Faiva performance of many traditional Tongan dances from all over the kingdom. Oholei has a variety of dances from all over Tonga. From the Niuas to Eua, they are all represented.Your host Simana Kami will share the history of the different dances as well as local legends while you enjoy the show. You will be entertained by Oholei's finest local band with a variety of island songs & summer groove flavas!

Primary School
Lastly, we visit a gorgeous primary school, meet the children and they will even perform a few songs for us. Stationary donations are welcomed by the school
