Shanghai is the largest commercial and financial center in China, with a fascinating fusion of Eastern and Western cultures.

It’s a vibrant megacity where you’ll find an endless range of delicious food, modern architecture, cultural sites, and shopping at every corner.

From the glitzy skyscrapers of Lujiazui to hipster microbreweries in the Former French Concession, its many central neighborhoods are wonderfully diverse and offer a new Shanghai experience for every day.

Shanghai welcomes travelers with a stimulating pulse, sky-high buildings, rich cultural experiences, and food that will have you dreaming about it for months.

★★ Late Night★★
------------------------------
Entertainment can be found any day, any time, in any central area of Shanghai.

But for the most iconic night out, head over to The Bund for some of the city’s most famous bars and nightclubs, many of which offer spectacular views and rooftops in the warmer months.

When you get tired of dancing, try singing the night away at a KTV (karaoke) club, which is a popular pastime in China. Many KTVs are open around the clock, offer private rooms for both small and big parties, and include a wide range of Chinese and international songs for all guests to enjoy.

★★ Know Before You Go★★
------------------------------
Although Shanghai is one of the most modern cities in China, be prepared for English not being too widely spoken outside of international hotels and popular restaurants.

It might be helpful to write down a few basic words and phrases to carry with you in your pocketbook or smartphone, and when taking a taxi, make sure to have the names and addresses of your hotel and destinations written in Mandarin to show to the driver.

Shanghai is generally a very safe city, but as you would anywhere, be mindful of valuables and pick-pockets in crowded areas.

And do note that many international websites including social media sites are not accessible in China.

------------------------------
★★ When to Go★★
------------------------------
The periods of March through May and September through November typically see the best weather in Shanghai, with comfortable temperatures and a relatively dry climate (with occasional rain to be expected).

However, try to avoid the first week of October, when all of China celebrates its National Day holiday. During this time, many locals travel to their hometowns leaving shops and restaurants closed, and domestic tourists flock to see Shanghai, causing famous sites to be overly crowded.
------------------------------
★★ Celebrate★★
------------------------------
Despite being China’s most modern, international city, traditional culture still thrives and heavily influences the everyday lives of Shanghai’s residents.

The two major holidays are Chinese New Year in January and February and the National Day holiday the first week of October.

Although visiting during these festivals may offer an amazing cultural experience, they are by far the busiest periods in terms of domestic travel, making getting around potentially uncomfortable or even difficult.
------------------------------
★★ Souvenir to Take Home★★
------------------------------
Shanghai is an excellent destination for having clothes tailored affordably.

Head over to the South Bund Fabric Market for an endless choice of tailor shops and seamstresses ready to whip you up a coat, suit, dress, or pretty much anything you can think of for your wardrobe.

For best results, bring pictures and be as specific as possible when describing what you want. If you have a favorite piece you’d like to duplicate, lend it to the tailor while they create the new garment. Pay with cash and don’t forget to bargain.
