Boris Johnson ‘makes no apology’ as Keir Starmer says lockdown delay cost lives

Boris Johnson said he made "absolutely no apology" for avoiding a national lockdown for as long as possible as Sir Keir Starmer insisted a “catastrophic failure of leadership” had cost lives and businesses.

The Prime Minister said he had been justified in going for a local approach and supporting Test and Trace because they have "both done a fantastic job, in their way" of getting the virus under control.

Sir Keir said the "central lesson" from the first wave was that without acting quickly and decisively, the economic and health costs would be higher.
