SHOFAR BLOWING / 5781 / 2020

“… In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.” Lev.23:24.
The exact name of this feast is “Zihron Truah”, the Memorial of Shofar Blowing.
But is not about the kind of a memory, when we remember somebody’s name or a phone number.
This is the memory that lives in our inner being as if we were standing at the bottom of the mount Sinai together with our fathers a short time after the exodus of Israel from Egypt, standing there and listening to the voice of shofar coming from heaven and to the voice of God, both sounding as one. This memory means being in God’s holy presence here and now.
Memory in Hebrew “Zecher”, “Zicharon”.
Zachar is a name of a man, it has the same root. In the other words, this is the one who keeps memory of his standing before the Lord.
It is like a Seed that has within itself a "memory" of the future tree (the way it should become, it's trunk, branches, leaves, flowers and smells, fruits, even birds hidden in its crown. All this is already contained in the potential in this small seed.

Zichron Truah – the seed of the Creator planted inside us.

There are two commandments for this Feast: to blow shofar and to listen to it’s voice.
When Israel blows shofar, it symbolizes the voice of heavenly shofar.
The commandment to listen is a ministry of our hearts before the Creator. Do you remember “Shema Israel”?
By listening with an open heart, we are able to take actions that come out of the sounds of the shofar: healing, correction, deliverance, and a calling to stand in freedom.

What the Father wants to create inside our hearts, is symbolically conveyed by three types of blowing:
1. TKIYA - the first sound of the shofar (____). When the Torah speaks of the commandment of blowing, it uses this very verb - LITKOA (tkiya), which means to pierce, to go through overcoming a resistance, as it is said in Hebr.4:12:” For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
2. The second sound of blowing is SHVARIM. (___) It means to break, to crush. As it is said: “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. " Ps.34:18
3. TRUA the third kind of trumpeting (a loud joyful cry), as it is said: “...therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.” Ps.27:6
4. And one more - the lingering great sound TKIYA GDOLA - the cry of victory, the joy of the King's accession to the throne.
