Lec 2: Rank and Nullity of Matrix | Linear Algebra | BSc Maths

Lec 2 | Normal Form of Matrix | Rank of Matrix | Matrices | Linear Algebra | Engineering Mathematics 1 (M-1) RGPV B.Tech 1st Year

In today’s video, we will learn how to find the Rank and Nullity of a Matrix using Row Echelon Form. This topic is very important for BSc Mathematics, IIT JAM, GATE, CSIR NET, and other competitive exams.

✨ Concept Recap:

Rank of a Matrix → the maximum number of linearly independent row or column vectors. To find the rank, we convert the matrix into Row Echelon Form (REF). The number of non-zero rows in REF = Rank.

Nullity of a Matrix → Nullity = (Number of columns) – (Rank of the Matrix).
