UK government rejects foreign secretary David Lammy's statement that Israel broke international law

The UK government on Tuesday has rejected a statement made by foreign secretary David Lammy in the Commons on Monday, in which he acknowledged that Israel’s blockade on aid to Gaza was a “breach of international law”.

Lammy made the statement after he was questioned by Labour MP Rupa Huq and described the lack of aid in Gaza as “unacceptable, hugely alarming and very worrying” before calling on Israel to once again allow aid trucks to enter the Gaza Strip.

A spokesperson for UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the government’s position on Israel’s action was “clear” and that it believes they are “at risk of breaching international law”, emphasising that “there is no change in policy here”.
