Brain Balance Research: What the Harvard Study Found

An independent research team at McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, studied the effects of the Brain Balance Program on students diagnosed with ADHD. The study included components used within the Brain Balance program, including Interactive Metronome training, and the findings were published in the peer-reviewed journal Psychiatry Research.

Researchers reported statistically significant improvements in ADHD symptoms, including reductions in inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These changes were reported by both parents and clinicians who participated in the study. The research also included objective measurements of attention and movement, which showed measurable improvements in sustained attention and reductions in hyperactivity following participation in the program.

In addition, a related sub-study examined functional brain imaging and reported changes in brain connectivity after completion of the program. Some brain network differences commonly observed in children with ADHD were no longer statistically significant following the intervention. Overall, the study concluded that the Brain Balance Training Program was associated with clinical and behavioral improvements through a non-pharmacological, drug-free approach.
