In this video, we’re going to talk about enzymes. What are enzymes, and how do enzymes work? Enzymes are like tiny little worker bees in your body. They do the work of breaking down carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and other raw nutrients.
When you have a meal, you trigger the release of enzymes. Your body tells your pancreas what types of enzymes to release based on what kinds of nutrients you ingested. Specific enzymes break down specific nutrients.
The enzymes break down nutrients into small particles that your body can use to create new tissue.
Your DNA tells your enzymes what to do. Enzymes speed up chemical reactions that would otherwise take years and years to complete.
Enzymes also recycle themselves. They are not used up during a chemical reaction.
Drugs and poisons can inhibit enzymes. That’s how they work—they block enzyme reactions.
Enzymes are triggered by pH changes. If your pH level is out of balance, your enzymes won’t become activated. Enzymes can also be activated by hormones and temperature changes.
Vitamins, minerals, and enzymes work synergistically. You need all of them for your body to function correctly.
