IAA Mentorship Webinar on Transformation in The Digital Era, with Dr. Anish Shah, Group President (Strategy), Mahindra Group, moderated by Ms Charulata Ravi Kumar, CEO, Razorfish India.
Dr. Anish Shah is the Group President (Strategy) for the Mahindra Group. His key focus areas are strategy development and implementation, building capabilities such as digitisation and analytics, driving international growth especially in the US and Africa. The Group Strategy office also leads Risk Management and Performance Review, plus enables synergies across Group companies.
Prior to joining the Mahindra Group in 2014, Dr. Anish Shah was President and CEO of GE Capital India, where he led the transformation of the business, including a turnaround of its SBI Card joint venture. His career at GE spanned 14 years. As Director, Global Mortgage, he worked across more than thirty countries to drive growth and manage risk, and as Senior Vice President (Marketing and Product Development) at GE Mortgage Insurance, he led various growth initiatives and played a key role in preparing the business for an IPO, as a spinoff from GE. Dr. Shah also received GE’s prestigious Lewis Latimer Award for outstanding utilization of Six Sigma in developing a “Digital Cockpit.” Before GE, Dr. Shah worked at Bank of America, Bain & Company, and Citibank.
Dr. Shah holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business where his doctoral thesis was in the field of corporate governance. He also received a Master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon, and a post-graduate diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
In this session, Dr Anish Shah provides insights to survive reformatted industry. The insights come from his experience having worked with the largest names in the industry.
He explores a wide range of topics right from the need for evolution of data analytics; lessons to be learnt from failure; the use of digital tools to reimagining customer engagement and 'Corporate Garages' where large corporates are now incubating startups. He also mentions that the future of organizations lies in its empathy towards employees, customers and stakeholders.
He also talks about how mundane tasks' being automated gives professionals an opportunity to make more judicious use of their time and intellect. He ends the session explaining that professionals and organizations will survive only if they adopt a mind-set of adapting to the reformatted industry and how leadership will need to drive that change.
