PACIFIC WAR PART 2 EPISODE 3 THE BATTLE FOR LEYTE GULF OCT 1944

Hi I am Gary Ford Managing Director of Tiger Hobbies Limited UK Hobby Importers and Distributors, I have been involved with Hobby Distribution for just over 20 years. Before that I served 26 Years in the Royal Air Force in Supply and Logistics, joining as a Boy age 16 in 1976 to leaving as a Senior Non Commissioned Officer ( SNCO) in 2002. I have always been fascinated with Military History since been bought my first set of Airfix Soldiers in the late 1960's US Marines and Japanese Infantry.

Welcome to the Pacific War Part 2 Episode 3 The Battle for Leyte Gulf Oct 1944.

This is stated as the largest battle in Modern Naval History, with up to 5 fleets engaging two US Fleets, 7th and 3rd and three Japanese, Northern, Central and Southern in this critical Battle to secure the start of the Philippines campaign.

The Japanese would try to lure the US Navy into a trap and away from the landing beaches so the massive Japanese central fleet including two Yamato Class Battleships and many others could destroy the US Landing Force east of the Island of Leyte.

The Japanese were close to pulling this off, and it failed due to a small fleet of Escort Carriers of Taffy 3 who would fought like tigers against one of the the largest Japanese surface fleets of the War, a classic David and Goliath battle.
