Iceland’s Most Unusual Museums : A. Kendra Greene

A. Kendra Greene will discuss her book The Museum of Whales You Will Never See: And Other Excursions to Iceland’s Most Unusual Museums.

With a population of just over 350,000 people, Iceland boasts more than 260 museums — nearly 1 for every 1,350 residents. Among them are the Icelandic Sea Monster Museum and the bric-a-brac-filled Nonsense Museum. Greene will delve into this quirky museum culture in a chat that combines travel history, myth and the island’s many eccentricities.

“Nowhere in the world have I seen personal collections turn into museums so seamlessly, so frequently, or so brilliantly," says Greene, who is a regular at the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Museum of Art, where she often leads artist and writing workshops.

Greene also teaches creative writing at the University of Texas at Dallas.
