Waist Slide Role Change in Cross-Step Waltz
The original Waist Slide in cross-step waltz is shown in another video, demonstrated by my students Nick and Melissa Enge here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH_6CmlMtUU
Here, in this video, the Waist Slide is an excellent way to change the lead over to the Follow, for role reversal, because the Follow's right arm, at the end of a Waist Slide, is exactly where the Lead's right arm is in waltz position. So the Lead begins a Waist Slide and just stops in the outside lane with cross-side, on counts 4-5, and holds, holding arms in an "I'm ready to follow!" position, ready to recommence cross-step waltz on the other foot, in the other role, on the musical downbeat.
I tried springing this figure on three Follows who knew how to lead cross-step waltz, but had never seen this way of changing roles. All three immediately got it the first time, stopping and immediately re-starting as a Lead, with the Lead's footwork. It's a very intuitive way of changing roles while dancing.
Here I am partnered by Emily Saletan.
The music is a waltzification, by Lucas Garron, of Audiomachine's Breath and Life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0xZ-H2KYWw
