How To Add More Ports To Your Home Router
Have you run out of physical ports on your home router? Here is how you can add more ports so you can connect more physical devices!
Method 1: Use an old router you already own
Plug that old router in and reset the settings to factory default.
Now connect to that old router either via WiFi or using a LAN cable and login and DISABLE DHCP.
Finally, plug a cable from one of the LAN ports of that router into a LAN port on your MAIN router. Now anything connected to that second router can access the internet! It's all on the same network.
Method 2: Buy an UNMANAGED SWITCH for cheap
If you don't have an old router lying around, you can purchase an unmanaged switch for cheap (like under $25). It's much cheaper than going out and buying another router. Make sure it's an UNMANAGED SWITCH. That means there are no settings or configurations and it will be cheap. The ports on the switch are just as fast as the router if you buy a Gigabit switch. So look for a Gigabit UNMANAGED switch. Now connect the switch to your router with a LAN cable. Anything else you plug into that switch will also be able to connect to your network and access the internet. The switch will also need its own power source.
