5. ANGOLA
Angola is the 7th largest country in Africa with a population of over 21 million people and is located in south central Africa. The Angola Armed Forces has three components: the army, the navy, and the air force. The eggs from what the President calls the “Golden Goose” which are the oil wells have allowed Angola to fund a large military budget.Angola currently has an active force of up to 100,000 troops The equipment it uses is as follows: 59 fighter aircraft, by 585 armoured fighting vehicles, 56 attack aircraft, 15 attack helicopters, 244 combat tanks, 115 rocket projectors, 538 armored fighting vehicles, 332 towed artillery, 38 naval patrol craft, etc. With a budget for defence at $4,150,000,000, Angola is sure to continue to see a strong military growth.
4. NIGERIA
It appears it has taken a decade of jihadist violence and other internal security issues for one of Africa’s strongest military forces to be considered tested. For some reasons, Nigeria’s military warfare against terrorists in its North-east region is not yielding the expected result – ending the terrorism. Although the North-east conflict is an ideological war fought by jihadists who have employed guerrilla tactics of hit-and-run to prolong total victory, there may be other reasons why Nigeria is not winning the war. Agreeably, there has been a nationwide spike in security issues continually begging for the attention and engagement of Nigeria’s military forces already stretched thin in the war against terror in the North-east region. Nigeria has an estimate of 120,000 active personnel in the military forces from an over 200 million population. Pakistan, as populated as Nigeria and also battling with terrorism, has a military strength of 1,204,000 personnel and 550,000 as reserves
