DRAKON On Ride at Valgard: Realm of the Vikings #planitpark #valgard #paultonspark

Drakon at Paultons Park, join us for an intense on ride POV aboard Paultons Park’s first ever inverting roller coaster as we conquer the mighty Drakon in Valgard: Realm of the Vikings. Experience the vertical lift hill, beyond vertical drop, powerful inversions and high-speed Viking thrills on the flagship coaster of Paultons Park’s huge new 2026 expansion.

Drakon is the crown jewel of Valgard: Realm of the Vikings and marks a major milestone for Paultons Park as the park’s first roller coaster to feature inversions. Manufactured by Gerstlauer as a custom Euro-Fighter coaster, Drakon stands approximately 23 metres tall and begins with a dramatic vertical chain lift hill that pulls riders skyward before plunging them down a beyond vertical first drop. The ride then powers guests through two inversions, high-speed turns and forceful transitions, delivering the most thrilling coaster experience in Paultons Park history.

Drakon officially opened on 16th May 2026 as part of the £12 million Valgard expansion and immediately became one of the park’s headline attractions. Designed to blend major thrill elements with Paultons Park’s family audience, Drakon represents the next stage in the park’s evolution, adding a more intense coaster while maintaining broad appeal. The Viking theming, detailed queue line, station design and surrounding Norse-inspired architecture help make Drakon one of the park’s most immersive roller coaster experiences.

Height restrictions for Drakon require guests to be at least 1.25 metres tall, with riders under 1.4 metres requiring adult supervision depending on park guidelines. Drakon’s advanced Gerstlauer engineering, smooth layout and visually striking vertical lift make it one of the standout new roller coasters in the UK.

Valgard: Realm of the Vikings also features Raven, the rethemed former Cobra coaster. Originally opening in 2006, Cobra was transformed into Raven as part of the Valgard project. Raven remains a Gerstlauer bobsled coaster, now reimagined with Viking theming, new storyline elements and integration into the wider land. Raven provides fast-paced family thrills with drops, turns and airtime hills.

Vild Swing adds another major attraction to Valgard as the UK’s first ART Engineering Wild Swing. This 12 metre tall flat ride swings guests through gravity-defying arcs using a free-swinging gondola with 16 seats, creating a powerful but family-accessible thrill experience.

For younger Viking adventurers, The Orchard Playground offers a large themed play area with lookout towers, climbing features, net swings and slides.

The Nordic Feasting Hall serves as Valgard’s main themed restaurant, offering major dining facilities within the land and helping create a complete themed destination.

Valgard was developed using land formerly occupied by Dragon Roundabout and Magma, alongside large areas of previously open space. Magma was relocated to Crealy Theme Park as Pirates Plummet, while Dragon Roundabout was removed. Cobra was transformed into Raven, preserving an existing ride while giving it a major thematic overhaul. The Go Karts were also removed for wider future expansion, though not directly as part of Valgard.

Paultons Park, located in Hampshire’s New Forest, is home to over 70 rides and attractions and remains one of the UK’s top family theme parks.

The park is internationally recognised as the home of Peppa Pig World, the world’s first Peppa Pig themed land, which opened in 2011 and helped establish Paultons Park as a leading family destination.

Other major themed lands include Lost Kingdom, featuring Velociraptor, Flight of the Pterosaur, Splash Lagoon, Dino Chase, Boulder Dash and Dinosaur Tour Co.; Tornado Springs, home to Storm Chaser, Cyclonator, Windmill Towers, Buffalo Falls, Farmyard Flyer and Al’s Auto Academy; Critter Creek; and Ghostly Manor, the innovative haunted dark ride that opened in 2025.

Paultons Park continues to expand with its first on-site hotel and lodges under construction, alongside a major new water ride planned for 2027, further strengthening its position as a growing short-break resort destination.

Drakon is not only a major new coaster for Paultons Park, but also a symbol of the park’s continued growth and ambition. As the flagship attraction of Valgard: Realm of the Vikings, Drakon delivers intense thrills, major coaster innovation and powerful Viking theming, establishing itself as one of the most important attractions in Paultons Park’s history.
