Strange Days at 25: Neon Noir 25th Anniversary video | Movie Birthdays

Released to a relatively lukewarm reception in 1995, Strange Days slowly gathered some cult status as time went on. Playing out the anxieties of the 90s such as drug epidemics, strained race relations and the hyper advancement of technology (the explosion of mobile phones and the internet was practically around the corner) has becoming strangely prescient in 2020 as we see racial inequality, police brutality and social unrest bombard us in the headlines and on social media.

The film was written and conceived by James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow directs with all guns blazing following her previous action classic Point Break. As Strange Days turns 25, I explore the elements that still make the film worthy of rediscovery in this video essay.
