Jesse Jackson attends Oakland Tech CS event

The Oakland Public Schools Computer Science Showcase at Oakland Technical High School in April 2017 a major success by all accounts, as it not only built stronger connections between the District and leading technology firms but also raised $42,500 in donations for computer science.

Reverend Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition played a key role in promoting computer science by donating $10,000 to OUSD to support the programs. At the Showcase on Thursday afternoon, April 20, after announcing that generous donation, Rev. Jackson asked the crowd if anyone else wanted to match the offer. Three hands went up and people from Intel, Microsoft and 11 West Partners stepped up to match, bringing the total donation to $40,000. Another $2500 donation came in at an evening event. The money will go to fund scholarships and computer science technology programs.
