New York Family Drowns in ‘Death Trap’ Basement Apartment
In the wake of the flooding in New York, tragic details of the lives lost are emerging. Of the 13 New Yorkers that died, 11 were living in basement apartments. A 2-year-old boy and his parents all lost their lives after their basement unit flooded. Mayor Bill De Blasio pledged to overhaul city policy on basement apartments. He is taking heat from some who say he waited too long to declare a state of emergency, long after much of the flooding began.
