Law Enforcement Torch Run Overview

Saturday, June 24 & Sunday, June 25 – Competitions
Special Olympics is the charity of choice for Law
Enforcement world-wide, partnering to raise awareness
and funds to benefit the lives of all Special Olympics
athletes. Known honorably as “Guardians of the Flame,”
law enforcement members and Special Olympics
athletes carry the torch, the Flame of Hope, into
the Opening Ceremony of competitions,
symbolizing courage and championing
acceptance and inclusion for people with
intellectual disabilities.
Over 3,500 law enforcement personnel from
200 different Northern California law
enforcement agencies participate in the Torch
Run. The run spans across two weeks, passes
through 30 different counties and over 180 different
cities, generating great visibility throughout local
communities.
