1988 Saleen Mustang 5.0

In today’s episode, we have something truly special to share with you—a 1988 Saleen Mustang #244. This rare and highly collectible Mustang is powered by the legendary 5.0L V8 engine and comes equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, factory air conditioning, and an incredibly low 23,000 original miles.

This vehicle previously belonged to one of our longtime customers who sadly passed away. He took exceptional care of the car throughout his ownership, preserving its originality and condition. Our goal was not to restore the vehicle, but rather to preserve and enhance what was already an outstanding example of Saleen Mustang history.

To accomplish this, we performed our complete Preservation Detail Package. The interior received a full deep cleaning, including carpet shampooing, vacuuming, pet hair removal, vinyl and trim conditioning, and detailed attention to every surface. Under the hood, the engine compartment was carefully cleaned and detailed to bring back its factory appearance.

For the exterior, we began with a complete APC rinse and foam cannon contact wash. After safely drying the vehicle, we performed an iron decontamination treatment to remove embedded contaminants from the paint and clear coat. We then completed a three-stage paint correction and polishing process on both the paint and glass surfaces to maximize gloss, depth, and clarity.

To further enhance the appearance, we installed fresh pinstriping that complements the vehicle’s iconic Saleen styling while adding a subtle custom touch. Finally, we protected the finish with a professional-grade System X Ceramic Coating, providing up to five years of durable protection and incredible shine. As a licensed System X installer, Royal Torque Garage is proud to offer this premium protection package to our customers.

Mechanically, this Saleen has also received several important upgrades and maintenance items, including a new clutch assembly, upgraded shifter, and exhaust manifold improvements to ensure the driving experience matches the car’s stunning appearance.

Finding a genuine 1988 Saleen Mustang with only 23,000 miles is becoming increasingly difficult, making this example a rare opportunity to appreciate a piece of American performance history.
