UK furlough scheme to continue supporting wages of millions of workers - BBC News
The Chancellor Rishi Sunak is pledging more support for jobs and businesses as Covid restrictions are gradually lifted across the UK.
In the Budget he is confirming a continuation of the furlough scheme which supports the wages of millions of workers until the end of September, with employees receiving 80 percent of their salary.
And more than 600,000 people are to be added to the self-employment income support scheme.
The overall support schemes are likely to cost the taxpayer more than £100 billion.
However the Chancellor is warning that the policy of “doing whatever it takes” will have to come to an end once the pandemic crisis is over, because action will be needed to repair the public finances.
