Waltz's Theory of International Politics, chapter 1: Laws and Theories
In chapter one, Waltz discusses what laws and theories are, the differences between them, why these are important, and why they are often still ignored. He goes on to counter the "inductivist illusion", whereby many political scientists seem to believe that they will arrive at explanations for phenomena simply by collecting ever more data. He explains the need for theory and abstraction in order to understand our world.
