Traveling by train from Chicago to Seattle on Amtrak's "Empire Builder"

In June of 2020 Billie and I embarked on a cross-country train journey on Amtrak from Washington D.C. to Seattle. From D.C. to Chicago we road the "Capitol Limited" , and from Chicago to Seattle the "Empire Builder". The main purpose of our trip was to help out my parents during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and so in order to remain as safe as possible we booked Superliner Bedrooms for both legs.

This video is the second half of our journey, beginning with leaving Chicago's Union Station on June 7th at 2:15 pm on the Empire Builder, and heading west. The views from our room were nothing short of astounding throughout. On the 7th we went through Milwaukee, and watched the sun set over the rivers and lakes south of Minneapolis. We woke on the 8th in eastern North Dakota, making a particularly memorable stop in Minot, ND. That afternoon we passed into eastern Montana, and eventually began our ascent into Glacier National Park, which in spite of the clouds and rain was nothing short of breath taking. We made another stop in Whitefish, MT, and the sun began to set as we descended from the Rockies.

Our third and final day, June 9th, began stopped in Wenatchee, WA, and we ate breakfast while climbing the Cascades, stopping briefly in Leavenworth, WA, and eventually heading down the western slopes, meeting the Puget Sound just north of Everett, WA. The Empire builder then follows the coast of the Puget Sound all the way into Seattle, ending at King Street Station.

We hope you enjoy our video!
