The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will get its first F-35A Lightning II aircraft in 2026.
This year, all the infrastructure needed for the operation of the F-35A RCAF has begun to be built by the Canadian government.
As is known, after a long debate in parliament, finally Canada will buy 88 F-35As made by Lockheed Martin, United States to replace the old CF-18 Hornet fleet.
Airspace Review on December 23, 2022 reported that the Canadian government has approved funding to purchase the first batch of Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fifth-generation stealth fighter jets from the United States.
The Canadian Treasury Board has given the go-ahead for the Department of National Defense to spend $5.14 billion for 16 F-35As from the United States in the first batch.
The Canadian Ministry of Defense explained that the F-35A has the ability to fly 2,200 km non-stop. This distance is equivalent from Cold Lake, AB to Inuvik, NWT.
