Filigree (filigree or filigrann or filigrene) is a delicate kind of jewelry metalwork made with twisted threads usually of gold and silver. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful art forms developed by man. Silver filigree is a style, which may be of two types, ornamental and decorative. Fine pliable threads of metal are curled, twisted, and plaited, then united at their points of contact with each other, by means of gold or silver soldering with the help of a blowpipe to make the desired object. Techniques such as nipping, plaiting, jointing, piling, filling, and knitting are used in the making of filigree jewel.
