Of all the films available I have absolutely no recollection of wtf this was filmed ... somewhere in Europe.. could be Sweden, Poland, Holland ...... one thing obvious here, is how well we got on as a band, then .... ..

the millstone ......
recorded Mon and Tues 18th/19th November 1968 .... 50 years ago .... at the CBS Studio New Bond St and engineered by Mike Ross-Trevor and produced by the legendary Mike Smith.
The horns, arr by Keith Mansfield, were overdubbed on the Tues morning as was the piano part by Alan Hawkshaw ... in the shops by the following Friday.. Top Spot by Christmas week 1968.
Our office had gotten a call from Dick "Robin Hood" James, the Beatles Publisher telling us he had a song from the yet to be released White Album that he would like to offer us " exclusively" .....
What DO you do?
Despite "warn off" telegrams from Peter Walsh our manager, ""career suicide to cover a Beatles track", and same from our stablemates the Tremeloes who were in S America, we went for it....
We were touring the north of England and had to fly back by private plane to Elstree for the late session ... all hush hush, hence Keith's frontline score title ...
By the following week, our "exclusive" had been offered to six other acts, incl The Bedrocks ..........
As far as the UK is concerned, no matter what we did, either collectively or individually thereafter, this one is the inditement..
Continually in the top three of "worst ever Beatles Songs", Paul wrote it, the other three, particularly JW Lennon, hated it ... and despite the huge success, (and worldwide), it has been a bit of a millstone ... but at least Wullie Campbell had the B side, "Chains", and it helped bump up our value so much so Decca paid an absolute fortune, for the time, to poach us from CBS and "Reflections of My Life" was out within the year......
I still think it was a great pop record ... tho Beatles best, as it should be....
