Welcome to Day 6 of our Learn English Pronunciation Series!

Today we learn about the Short O-type A sound – when the letter “A” is pronounced like /ɒ/ or /ɔː/ (similar to “ऑ” in Hindi) instead of the usual short A (/æ/).

This video is part of Week 1: Basic Sounds & Pronunciation, where we start with individual vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u) and mouth positioning. Perfect for beginners with weak English or no English at all who want to improve spoken English fluently and confidently.

👉 Where does this happen?
This sound usually appears before certain consonant groups:
✔️ A + ll / lk / lt → all, ball, walk, talk
✔️ A + sh / sp / nt / ff → wash, wasp, want, staff, scarf

🔹 Rule: Sometimes the letter A sounds like O in British English, especially before ll, lk, lt, sh, sp, nt, ff.

🔹 Examples:
✔️ want (not /wænt/, but /wɒnt/)
✔️ wash (not /wæʃ/, but /wɒʃ/)
✔️ talk (not /tæk/, but /tɔːk/)

🔹 How to remember: Think of A before sh, sp, nt, ff → sounds more like O.

⚡ Not every word follows this rule, but it’s very common in daily English. Mastering these exceptions will help you sound more natural and fluent.
