About the Speaker -
Dr. Debasree Debnath is presently working as an Assistant Professor of Law at National Law University, Tripura (NLUT). She is also the Centre Director, Centre for Women and Child Rights at NLU Tripura. She worked on project with UNICEF regarding child marriage issues in the state of Tripura and various Social Welfare Schemes in Tripura for Scheduled Tribes funded by West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. In addition to this, Dr. Debasree delivered guest lectures in many reputed national institutions. Before joining NLU Tripura, she was associated with Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur. She is an alumnus of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. Her area of interest includes Family law, Women and Child Rights, Jurisprudence, Interpretation of Statutes and Research Methodology. She has authored a book and has numerous national and international publications in her credit.

About the Topic - Regulating Child Marriage in India: Legal Reforms and Policy Responses focuses on how Child Marriage violently robs children of their childhoods, permanently depriving them of education and fundamental human rights. It traps young girls in cycles of poverty and forces them into early pregnancies and domestic abuse before they are physically or emotionally mature.
About the Organisation - National Reconstruction Project is to bring up issues of public policy and public administration in a non-partisan manner by experts and academicians. Subjects of immediate interests are educational reforms, police reforms, economic policy, agricultural economy and farmer suicides, naxal violence etc.
