Touring the New Mexico State Capitol

Our state Capitol treks took us to Santa Fe to visit New Mexico's state Capitol. Built in the 1960s, it's not as grandiose as the state Capitols built in the 1800s, but it's still a neat building to visit, especially since it is filled with all kinds of artwork.

In the video, we mention the state symbol of New Mexico, which is the Zia sun. According to online sources, the 16 rays of the zia sun – four in every direction – symbolize various aspects of life. Those pointing to the north represent the four directions; the rays to the west represent the four seasons; the rays to the south represent “mountains we as individuals must climb” – infancy, adolescence, adulthood, elderhood; the rays to the east represent “ourselves” – “our heart, our mind, our body, our spirit.”
