1966 Chevrolet Malibu, Big block, 4 speed, test drive, Auto Appraisal, 800-301-3886

Jason Phillips, certified auto appraiser rolled down the road and put this VIN 136 Malibu to the test. The transplanted period 396 runs well, no smoking or knocks, and is a vast improvement over it's original 6 cyl. design. The Muncie shifted well, but had very late pedal engagement, indicating a very worn clutch. Cherry bomb exhaust rumble sounded good, headers are wrapped with heat shield. It's an amateur repaint, and some filler is present down low. 70% magnet. Although there are nicks, chips and some swells, it's still a good looking 20 footer. The trunk had some major surgery, and although a bit crude in presentation, it's solid and does the job. The interior is a good 10 footer, with mis-matched vinyl components on the front buckets, and a survivor everything else. The frame looked solid, but floor pan surgery is in this car's future, as some rust through is present in the pans and inner rocker structure. Rear body mounts have yet to be installed adjacent to the fuel tank, an important support feature, apparently overlooked by the floor pan surgeon. A great car to throw a new clutch in, and just enjoy it as it sits, without investing much money. It would be a "challenging proposition" to bring this car back to a showable level, and probably an investment that wouldn't be prudent.
