After the video spread online, people criticised the behaviour as moral policing. They said it was not the police’s role to question adults in a public place or make assumptions about their relationships. The online backlash was strong and widespread.

Because of the criticism, the police administration transferred the woman officer from her post. She was removed from the women’s police station and told to report to headquarters instead. The action was seen as a response to what the department viewed as inappropriate conduct.

Overall, the incident started a discussion about how police should behave with the public, what counts as overreaction, and where the line is between security and unnecessary interference.
