Eilís Boland (nee Farrelly) (1917 – 1970) was born in Dún a Rí (Kingscourt), Co. Cavan on 10th August 1917.
She started writing songs in 1950. Just some of the titles of her songs were:-
"Dooneree", "Ballyhoe", "A Wee Sprig of Green", "Christmas Time in Ireland", "Johnny Gray", "The Old Pig Sty", "Our Wedding Day", "I Dream of you", "The Mountains of Cooley", "An Irish Boreen,".
A number of her songs have been recorded by artists, notably, Vera Lynn and more recently, Daniel O'Donnell.
Eilís married Enda Boland in 1945 and had 3 children: Fidelma, Bróna and Fergal.
