Breaking Generational Cycles Is Breaking Me

Being a single mother is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Every day, I’m in hustle mode—working, building, and trying to create a better future for my girls. But in the process, I feel like I’m missing the very moments that matter most. The hugs, the laughs, the conversations—I feel them slipping through my fingers while I chase a dream that’s supposed to give them everything.

What hurts even more is that I know this feeling all too well. Growing up, my mother wasn’t present, and it left me with wounds I’m still trying to heal from. I promised myself that my daughters would never feel the same way I did—unseen, unheard, and unworthy of attention. But here I am, afraid that history is repeating itself.

I’m doing my best, but some days, I wonder if it’s enough. If I’m making the right sacrifices. If they’ll understand why I was always so busy. If they’ll look back and see a mother who loved them beyond measure or a mother who was just too busy.

If you’re a mother carrying this same weight, I want you to know that you are not alone. We are fighting for something bigger than ourselves. And even though it hurts now, I have to believe that one day, it will all be worth it. I have to believe that breaking these cycles, no matter how painful, will give my daughters the life I never had.
