Beauty Psycho the movie - short film

My clear inspiration for this short film was American Psycho and the complex personality of Patrick Bateman (portrayed by insanely talented Christian Bale). If you haven't seen it, I don't want to put any spoilers so I will just say that one of the reasons I love this film is a look inside the head of a modern professional, the constant pressure to be the best at work, look the best and have the most exquisite business card... This can be so easily applied to beauty standards. The pressure, the twisted, unrealistic standards we hold ourselves to. Especially women. Photoshopped pictures, instagram filters and celebrities spending more on beauty treatments than most of us will earn in a lifetime. This can make us believe that we are ugly, not worthy, not good enough... but nothing can be further from the truth. Women are expected to always look their best, behave a certain way, always have a smile on their face, have a career, be a good wife, mother, housekeeper... but when it becomes too much they are called weak, hormonal or even crazy. For me that's crazy. We all have the right to have lower days, need and ask for help or just be in the mood that we want to be.

With this #shortfilm I wanted to shine a little bit more light on how all of it can affect our mental health. Setting a bar high, working towards goals is a good thing but it can also be extremely damaging. Especially if the goals were beyond our reach from the start.

Very often we are not aware of the struggles that other people are going through. Even someone close. And when someone feels they are hitting rock bottom, asking for help seems to be too big of a task. Maybe because they don't believe someone can help or will care enough to help. But I'm here to say out loud that your #MentalHealth is important and your feelings are valid!

So please if you struggle with #depression, anxiety or you suspect someone close to you may please speak to a friend, family member, reach out to your doctor or call anonymous helpline.
Speaking from my own experience I know how hard it is to ask for help but trust me, when you do you might be surprised how much support you may receive. I can not promise you the way out will be fast or easy but I can assure you there's a light at the end of the tunnel even if you don't see one now.
