What's happening?? - Anxiety and Depression keep me out of the workshop.
In this update video I have to talk to you about how my mental health is preventing me from working and enjoying myself in the new workshop.
Please read the description for more info.
Mental Health is a hot topic these days and this prevented me from making this video earlier. However I think mental health is a very important topic that should be talked about openly as it affects most of us at some point in our lives. Especially creative and artistic people who have a tendency for perfectionism are more likely to experience mental health problems.
That might be the reason for so many (YouTube) creators suffering mental health issues like depression, imposter syndrome and burn out.
Eighteen months ago I wanted to start a healthier lifestyle.
So after almost 30 years I stopped smoking cold turkey and started drinking less alcohol and I started working out and taking more notice of my eating habits.
While at first I didn't have any troubles quitting smoking and alcohol mentally, my body did have some troubles adjusting to this change resulting, among other things, in insomnia.
Getting a good night sleep is very important and when you don't have quality sleep over an extended period of time both your body and mind will pay the toll at some point.
When the stress of having to unexpectedly rebuild my workshop and a failing business a depression hit resulting in severe anxiety attacks, imposter syndrome and very, very dark thoughts.
The anxiety got so severe I couldn't stay in the workshop for long, if at all, and when I tried to get something done the simplest of tasks would take me a very long time and it would drain all the energy I had the feeling everything I did wasn't good enough. There have been times I wanted to quit everything and just leave it all behind...
Luckily, with the support of my wife, I got help in time....
Hopefully with the help of medicines and therapy I'm on the way back, but it is still very hard to keep focused and be in the workshop without feeling very anxious and scared.
To be honest, although I wish it wasn't so, making videos doesn't have my priority at the moment. I would first like to be able to enjoy myself in the workshop and start making guitars again before adding the additional pressure of making videos and YouTube content.
That said I do want to do a workshop tour as soon as I can.
If you like to stay informed and keep following my channel please keep an eye out for future uploads. Until I'm ready/comfortable to start making regular videos again content may come to the channel somewhat irregular.
Thank you.
