DANGEROUS metal recycling? Scrapping to get the right alloy for sand casting
Try this for killer efficiency. Stop letting your scrapping process rob your foundry efficiency. I get this question a lot: what metal do you use for sand casting? I use aluminum, but not just any aluminum and certainly not beverage cans. I like to find parts that have been cast in sand originally. This means the alloy is a good one for sand casting such as A356. I will also use die cast part from alloys such as A383. Since I have run out of metal to cast parts for the Gingery Shaper I am building, I figured it would be a good opportunity to answer the question about the source of my metal. I use a circular saw to break down some components, which seems exceptionally dangerous to me. Be sure to understand how to do this safely before trying.
