Federal ICAC will be focused on ‘serious, systemic corruption’: Attorney-General

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus says the federal ICAC will be a commission focused on “serious or systemic corruption,” following the passing of the government’s national integrity commission legislation by the Labor caucus.

“We put in the bill a whole range of measures that are designed to empower the commissioner to protect reputations where that is possible, to ensure that the investigations that are conducted and the reports that are made deal with matters of real importance to Australia,” Mr Dreyfus said during a media conference on Tuesday.

“That are going to let us get on to the integrity of Australian government, improve the level of integrity in Australia’s government which is what the Australian people voted for at the last election.”
