On Sunday September 3rd, three friends and I set off to do one of the four Colorado Great Traverses - The Crestone Traverse. The Crestone Traverse is a very well known and respected route up the iconic Crestones. The Crestone Traverse is the name given to the ridge that connects Crestone Peak to Crestone Needle. It's a Class 3/4 route with good route finding but you can easily find yourself into Class 5 if you get off route.

The Crestone Traverse route starts from the South Colony Lakes trailhead. This route combines Crestone Peak and the Crestone Needle in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado. We started from the lower 2WD trailhead which made our trip right around 22.3 miles which took us 16.5 hours. It was a very long but successful day in the mountains.
