Belgium's Nina Pinzarrone 'fearless' moving forward
Belgium's Nina Pinzarrone had a break-through during the second half of the 2022-23 figure skating season and is fearless about moving forward into 2023-24. She had great success in the Junior ranks the previous season but was held back after being diagnosed with a double stress fracture in her hip last summer. As a result, she had to withdraw from two Challenger Series events, as well as two Grand Prix competitions this past fall. After the injury fully healed, the 16-year-old finished fifth in her debut at the 2023 European Championships and 11th at her first senior World Championships in Saitama, Japan.
Pinzarrone is currently hard at work, training in her home country home to prepare for the upcoming season and has already created two new programs. In this interview, she reflects on her injury, as well as her comeback, her goals for the upcoming season, what she is currently working on technically, and where her "dream" Grand Prix assignment would be at some point in her career.
In the second half of the interview, we get to know Pinzarrone better as a person as she tells how she was introduced to skating as a child, what she likes about the sport, who inspired her, and what she admires about Belgium's skating star and teammate Loena Hendrickx.
The skater from Brussels also discusses how she balances figure skating and school and opens up about sacrifices that she has to make in order to succeed in the sport. Additionally, we learn about her favorite hobbies and how she came to speak three languages fluently at such a young age.
