Short film against Child Marriages- Pathinettu- 18 DCPU MALAPPURAM

The agility and boldness showed by a 16 year old school girl from Manjeri, Malappuram district of Kerala in resisting her early marriage has inspired the District Child Protection Unit to make a short film on Child Marriage.
Mansiya (name of girl child in the film) dreads November 14, the day when children in the country get to celebrate their childhood. It was on that day, the 16 year-old School student’s marriage was fixed. The incident, A higher secondary student, the girl was bold enough to approach the police to continue her studies and to protect her from proposed marriage, which opened the eyes of the District Child Protection Unit, Malappuram, Kerala.
The Sub-Inspector in charge of the police station at Manjeri faced one of the uneasy surprises of his career when a 16 year-old girl walked up to him and requested his help to abort her proposed marriage. Police, District Child Protection Officer etc swung into action in conjunction with Child Marriage Prohibition Officer. CMPO approached bridegroom’s family and convinced them about the dangers of marrying before the girl turns 18. They agreed to honour the law and wait until the girl completes her studies. This led to not deprived of her childhood, the girl currently enjoys her studies.
