Weekend Trip from Downtown Los Angeles to Big Bear Lake | Vlog 2022

We decided last-minute to go to Big Bear Lake for the long Memorial Day Weekend. I know Big Bear Lake isn’t really seen as a spot to go for Memorial Day Weekend, but! It was fun and I’d recommend it to anyone.

We stayed 2 days and 1 night.
Because it was so last minute, a lot of places/airbnbs/motels/hotels were already booked up. We found a place on the east-side of the Lake for about $180 / night.

We left from Downtown Los Angeles at around 11am and it only took about 2 hours to get up to Big Bear Lake. Traffic was light.

We started at Stanfield Marsh Boardwalk which is a nice view. I think there’s supposed to be water there? Lol. It’s all dried up. From there we crossed the bridge “Stanfield Cutoff” to the north side of the lake. We headed west from there and pulled over on the side to explore the woods. We then went to the East Public Launch Ramp which has a nice view of the Lake.

We got hungry so we found and ate at a Mexican restaurant, Laguna Grill, which is very close to the Big Bear Village. Chips, salsa, ceviche, coronas, not bad not bad.
From there we strolled around Big Bear Village which is incredibly cute and Christmas decorated. This spot is definitely the "main part of town" of Big Bear Lake. It has many shops, restaurants, bars. Lots of people walking around. Random firepits you can sit next to. People are very friendly up here! You can make all your cliché souvenir purchases in this area as well! I'm talking knick-knacks, shirts, hats, socks, shoes, whatever!
For a local dive bar vibe, check out Murray’s Saloon & Eatery.

At night, there was a drone show for Memorial Day. If you tuned into the right local radio station, it was synchronized to the music playing. You can see some shots in the video of some of the patterns the drones made.
Lastly, we ended our night by going to this restaurant and café called La Pergola Trattoria. We got a delicious hot chocolate and a cappuccino! It’s super cute inside and outside. Great spot to eat at night.

The next day we got crepes at Café Crepe. Those crepes were damn good.

Our last stop was the Mine Shaft Alpine Coaster. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It is incredibly fun! I think it was about $20 per person for a ride. Our footage got lost so I couldn’t post anything about it. But, I’m sure you can find some vids about it on YouTube. It’s really fun!

Took 2 hours to get back to Downtown Los Angeles.

Some things to note:
We went in May 2022, Memorial Day Weekend.
The air and wind was cold, but the sun felt brighter and hotter than down in DTLA. Definitely bring sunglasses. A hat wouldn’t hurt either. Also! The air is thinner at that elevation and it was noticeable. My car noticed it too; I could tell the engine wasn’t as responsive.
