Galgotias University Robot Controversy at Delhi AI Summit, What Really Happened?

At this year’s India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, what was meant to be a showcase of cutting-edge innovation turned into a major controversy involving Galgotias University.
The university’s exhibition pavilion featured a quadruped robotic dog it introduced as “Orion,” allegedly developed by its Centre of Excellence. However, within hours the robot was identified by tech experts and attendees as the commercially available Unitree Go2 model, a Chinese-manufactured product not created by the university itself.
Online users and media quickly flagged the discrepancy, prompting sharp backlash about misrepresentation at a high-profile event intended to elevate India’s homegrown AI capabilities. Organizers' reportedly asked the university to vacate its stall, with power cut off to the pavilion amid the row. Government officials reiterated that exhibits at the summit should reflect authentic innovation and that “misinformation cannot be encouraged”.
This incident sparked debate on academic credibility, transparency in tech showcases, and the expectations of innovation at international forums.
