Butch Walker - American Love Story (FILM)

Come and gather, friends. Let me tell you a story of a young man named “Bo”. A man with a head full of doubts, a heart full of hate, and a good handful of “daddy issues”. I’m not really sure he was ever taught to even LOVE...

You see, Bo was not an easy kid. His dad wasn’t around much. And when he was, you would find him usually yelling at people of color on his TV, complaining about homosexuals, and threatening to deport Latinos on every street corner that were just looking for opportunities for their families. I guess the apple doesn’t ever fall far from the tree, as Bo would later in grade school, ridicule and mock kids that weren’t just like him. He even took to regularly beating up a gay kid named Willard in school, daily, just to make himself feel better. Several years later, when Bo was out of high school, short on a college education and long on a lack of general interest in life, he would end up working at the big motorcycle dealer in town. This is when his life would turn a bit of a corner...

The same gay kid (Willard) that Bo used to abuse in grade school, would go on to save Bo’s life in a twist of fate, when Will pulls his bigoted enemy from a burning truck on the side of the road, from attempting to drive home drunk one night.. Literally bringing Bo back to life with CPR, this is when Bo has an epiphany, and starts to question his life, his friends, and everything he had been taught his whole life...

Bo starts to see things in a different light.. or dare I say “white”. Starting to open his eyes to witness the entitlement and exploitation of “white male privilege”, he is realizing that it’s all around him.... EVERYTHING WHITE.

Bo has never known or been a fan of attachment or loving something, so when he meets and falls madly in love with an unlikely taker of his heart, a free-spirited, loving and recovering party girl named Paris, the story really ramps up.

Now they have a son of their own... a young man named Brad, who hates sports, loves art, already fluent in 3 languages, and is captain of the track team.... oh shit! Did we mention that Brad is gay? Must have left that out. When Bo and Paris finally have a sit down with their son for his “coming out” talk, although not easy for him, Bo feels the karmic shift in his life, and comes to terms with his past..

Feeling finally at ease with his life and his acceptance and unconditional love for his kid, Bo plans to make up for a lot of sheltered years by traveling and finally seeing the rest of the country in an RV with his family... it’s time to celebrate exploring the unknown. Visit new towns. Meet new people. New cultures, religions, ethnicities. This is all Paris wanted to do with him since the day they fell in love.

Well.. as most stories have a silver lining, some also have a sad part. Here’s the sad part. Paris dies of cancer. Yep. I know. Predictable, sadly. Considering most people die from some form of it these days anyways, Paris wouldn’t make it to see the country with her two favorite men in that brand new RV they bought...

Let’s recap what has happened here in this little American love story: Boy raised in hateful, sheltered family. Boy becomes product of his upbringing. Karma hits him. Changes his life around. Falls in love. Has a son. Son is an example of everything he was raised to hate. Now accepting and loving, especially of his greatest achievement in life (his boy), it’s time to finally LIVE LIFE. Then the love of his life dies. Where do we go now? How do we turn this around to be something that can eventually be shown on Lifetime television?

Well... one thing I forgot to mention is that Brad is a very gifted musician. Brad has been getting some steam going out on the road as a touring musician, so Bo has an idea. Bo would like to come on the road with his son. This could be his chance. This could be his chance to finally see what his wife always wanted him to see, and also a great side job selling merchandise for his son at the shows.

So, they load up his RV, tour booked, travel the country with Paris’ ashes in the center console, and spread them all across every state.. All while strengthening their bond with one another, finally seeing the rest of the country and all of it’s colors and cultures.

Life is beautiful if you make it that way.
