TREATMENT:

Dengue; No specific treatment for dengue; as it is a viral infection and is self-limiting. Symptomatic
Treatment is given to manage ill effects of the virus. Only Paracetamol preferred as other medications
like mefanamic acid, Ibuprofen can have adverse effects.

For high fever; Wet mopping of the whole body is recommended. Give lots of fluids, oral fluids, plenty of wat
Water, soup, fruit juices, tender coconut water, Food; No restriction. Watch; urine output.

If child is active, taking orally, urine output is adequate, not lethargic; You need not worry. Stable cases,
management and treating at home is possible.
When do I rush or get child admitted?
Symptoms like:

• Lethargy, inactive, excessive sleepiness
• Vomiting / severe stomach pain
• Less urine output
• Breathing difficulty,
• Bleeding through nose, mouth skin
• Red spots on skin or platelet count very less
• Puffy face/severe bloating
Rush to the hospital/doctor!

Treatment at hospital: At hospital too non-specific treatment is given.
• Transfusion only
1. If platelet very low; less than 10,000/
2. Child has bleeding tendency
• Fluid IV to correct abnormalities
• Puffy face: monitor BP/Pulse
• 5% may need specialised treatment/ICU•

Prevention.
• Control is the most important thing
• This mosquito breeds in fresh water. Tins, coconut shells, plastic bags, and plastic container thrown outside the house, AC ducts, small sumps or tanks open tanks, indoor plants wherever water collect therefore avoid the water collection in these!
• Public health authority should spray anti mosquito compound (DDT) around house
• Mosquito mesh, long sleeve dresses for child
• Mosquito repellent protects to small extent but not safe for some children

Dengue mosquito is a day biter and fresh water breeder. Controlling mosquito population’s controls disease.

IMPORTANT:DO NOT PANIC!
• Regular follow-up and monitoring medications is must!
• Early intervention decreases the ill effects and morbidity!
