Edward Elgar - Salut d'Amour Op.12 for Piano (1888)

Salut d'amour is arguably the best-known of Elgar's smaller-scale works. It was written in 1888 when Elgar was struggling to make a living in and around his home of Worcester, playing the violin for various local orchestras and teaching. The song was composed for Caroline Alice Roberts (1848-1920), a piano student of Elgar. It was originally entitled "Liebesgruß (Love's Greeting)". He dedicated it to her, using the name "Carice", a name derived from her initials. Caroline Alice Roberts and Edward Elgar became formally engaged in September 1888 and were married the following year.

I am playing this piece on a 1949 Steinway Model M.
