How to derive the Framing Square Rafter Tables - Lines 1 & 2 (Rafter lengths)
This first of three videos on the framing square rafter tables shows how to derive the first two lines: 1) the length of common rafter per foot of run and 2) the length of hip/valley rafter per foot of run. All math is done on a sheet of notebook paper and using the basic arithmetic functions available on any cheap calculator. A single hip roof with a 4-in-12 pitch, is used to illustrate the calculations for both the common and hip rafters.
