Testing Bernadette Banner’s pirate shirt pattern || Honest pattern review
Wondering if you should make the Bernadette Banner pirate shirt? Well then this video is for you!
For the past year Bernadettes Banners 18th century shirt was probably one of the most well known patterns for a pirate/poet shirt here on youtube. Unfortunetly so many people had struggled with following this pirate shirt pattern that it became a well known fact in the historical sewing community that this pattern has a lot of problems. This is why I decided to test out and review this pattern myself.
This video incudes: Bernadette Banner pirate shirt instructions adjusted by me to better fit the skills of a begginner, my own flustration during the making of the shirt, an honest pattern review and a little bit of aesthetic reveal footage.
Even though I said it many times throughout I still want to remind you here that this video is criticising the pirate shirt pattern itself NOT Bernadette Banner. Any criticisim of sewing methods used by Bernadette is based on presenting the shirt as an "easy begginner sewing project" in the original video.
Even though this video is not a typical tutorial I made sure to show you every part of the process so you know how to recreate the techniques I used for my 18th century shirt. If you want to reference this video as a pirate shirt tutorial feel free to do that, but I would still reccoment looking into patterns with neck gussets.
I hope this video clears things up for anyone currently lost in their pirate shirt project or serves as a warning for people wanting to start thier 18th century mens dress project.
Either way thank you for watching this video and be safe on your own pirate shirt adventure!
