Procrastination Habit Loop
You know what’s more unproductive than procrastination? Spending additional time beating yourself up for procrastinating in the first place.

So you procrastinated. Yet again.
You know you shouldn't feel guilty about it, but yet you still do. It's almost like an internal argument in your head. The voice inside your head is berating you and making you feel like even the smallest of tasks are going to take an eternity to complete.
What’s next on the agenda? It’s time to curl up in a ball on the sofa and feel bad about yourself, right?
WRONG! Beating yourself up about what you didn’t do is the biggest waste of time imaginable.
We all do it. I get it. It feels bad when we sabotage ourselves and we want to wallow in this shitty, shitty feeling.
But procrastination is not a moral failing. It’s just a human habit that’s keeping you safe and stuck and stifled.
At first you're all like, “I'll get to it later!” and then you keep pushing it off even further. The task seems out of reach, so you just sort of ignore it. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months... until the feeling of dread sets in. You've left it too long – what was once a manageable task is now something overwhelming, and there's no way you can do it by yourself.
But spending time feeling really crappy about what you didn’t do yet is truly unhelpful. Really. What’s in it for you to do this?
This is yet another blatant procrastination tactic . . . completely unproductive.
From now on, when you catch yourself beating yourself into a pulp for what you didn’t do, I want you to train yourself to think the following and then fill in the rest . . .
*Oh wait. I’m beating myself up again. Well, that’s not productive. What is the next obvious thing I could do immediately.* (then go do that thing!)
Enough with the naval-gazing on why you’re procrastinating. Just do something about it. Immediately, if not sooner.
